Sojourner Leatherwork is a small, heartland-based company that combines ancient leather art forms with modern and international design to create refillable leather journals and sketch books, using only the best and most ecologically friendly materials. Our refillable journals fit moleskine notebook sizes which are fast becoming universal for journals: our refillable journals also fit Pen & Ink, Handbook Artist, Markings, and many other journal sizes.  You should be able to find a refill in almost any town in America, making our journals one of the most relliable and affordable refillable journals out there

Our artisans first learned their art form in the mountainous village of Cafayate, Argentina, under the tutorship of Enrique Valdez. The leather tooling method is called “cincelado,” a leather stamping method entirely unique to the Andean mountain region. In the Argentine form, each stamp has a symbolic meaning, etched in designs that are deep with stories.

We’ve taken “cincelado” and have applied it to not only Argentine symbols and designs, but to every style imaginable. Our journals are inspired by history, drawing on Celtic, European medieval, ancient Japanese, and American indigenous impressions, while at the same time invoking timeless style and design.
